The Legend of JackPup’s Grub
When I took my 3 year-old Golden Retriever, JackPup, for his annual vet visit, I learned that his thyroid levels were low, and as a dog mom, I was concerned. I wanted a solution. The vet explained there are many different reasons for low thyroid levels, but one possibility was that JackPup was not properly absorbing the needed nutrients from his store-bought kibble. I got a good look at the many artificial ingredients and preservatives in his dog food and treats, and set about making food and snacks for him in my kitchen. Thus began JackPup’s Grub in Richmond, Virginia.
JackPup began happily eating his homemade delights, and particularly enjoyed the taste-testing. I noticed his coat became softer and shinier almost immediately, and he had more pep. When I took him the following year for his vet visit, his thyroid numbers were right on track. It is impossible to say that the all-natural food and treats made all of the difference, but I felt good knowing that there was a good chance it helped. I told friends and family about JackPup’s improvements, and many said, “I wish I could do that for my dog – I just can’t make the time. Would you consider making some for my dog?”
I knew that if JackPup had benefited from the homemade treats, then other dogs would, too. In July 2022, I joined the RVA Big Market at Bryan Park, a farmer’s market full of dogs ready to try new treats. Even shy and picky dogs enjoy the Chicken and Woofle samples! Bison, Elk and Venison Jerkies are a great pick for dogs with allergies. There is something for every dog at JackPup’s Grub. The pups know just where to find me at the market, and often put their front paws up on the table with excitement, waiting for their treats.
JackPup’s Grub can now also be found at the South of the James Farmer’s Market at Forest Hill park, as well as at Stephanie’s Pet Grooming in South Chesterfield. For now, JackPup is only willing to share his treats, but says he could be talked into sharing his dog food with dog pals next year – if he’ll get his favorite treats for being the goodest boy and sharing!
